Sisters, Sisters!

There were never such devoted sisters!

Well, sisters-in-law. :-) I was so lucky to marry into a great family and in that family were two awesome sisters: Sara and Grace.

Last week, Grace came to Rockport for my grandfathers funeral…on her birthday. I wanted to show my gratitude and so I took her out the following Friday for dinner in Boston. We asked Sara to come along, too. Our plan was to go to Brix wine shop in the South End for a wine tasting.

Unfortunately I misread the website and it started at 6pm not 5pm. We didn’t feel like waiting around; we were hungry.

So we headed right over to Picco for beer/wine and pizza…and ice cream. The restaurant was small, with a bar on one end and about 15 tables on the opposite end. It was Friday night around 5:30/6 and the restaurant was pretty busy. But we could still enjoy our conversation without having to yell above the noise.

Now, onto the food!

Ooh, honey and cinnamon look intriguing.

Pumpkin beer!! It was an Imperial Pumpkin beer from PA. It was so smooth and pumpkin-y. I was in heaven. Highly recommend this one!

Started with the Green salad: Organic mesclun with lemon juice and olive oil.

Dinner was a pizza special: Spicy braised chicken (not too spicy) with rabe and mozzerella. I have come to a conclusion though: I don’t like rabe. Not sure what it is but the texture and taste just don’t appeal to me. Any preperation that makes rabe tasty? Anyway, the pizza was so good! They indicate on the menu that their pizza’s are well done. It makes the outside crispy and the inside nice and soft.

And dinner ended with 1 scoop of honey ice cream and 1 scoop of cinnamon. It tasted just like the items. It was a delectable combination!

Near the end of dinner Sara chimed in that she had been wanting to make apple crisp. And I just so happened to have an entire peck of apples from last week! So the next night we met up at Sara’s condo to try our hand at crisp.

Man this crisp was soooo good!

  2. Spread apples in pan. Mix remaining ingredients except cream; sprinkle over apples.
  3. Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with fork. Serve warm with cream.

Oh, and on a side note (This post is getting long! But I have a lot to tell. :-) ) I ran my 4th CVS Downtown 5k this morning in Providence and I had a personal best on the course! It wasn’t my best 5k but it was really close! I ran in 26:26. It was sooo hot though. The last hill was tough but David and I made it! My dad ran (24:30), mom (33:15) and my friend Jess (38ish). Then we went to my parents for a pot roast lunch/dinner.

What a fluffball Charlie is! Love him. My cat does the “otter pose” too. So weird!

I know! It’s too funny. Charlie is the best. He just got groomed too so he’s less fluffy than usual. :-)
