Well, we sure did a lot of eating on our trip! And it looks like the majority of dining WAS burgers and Mexican. Ah well, at least I was able to find variety!
But David and I sure did a lot of activities to balance out all the food. We didn’t get out on hiking Red Rock Canyon like we had hoped, and I (foolishly) didn’t bring certain items that were meant for running. And there was a really nice gym there too. Alright, maybe in my mind, I kept telling myself “I’m on vacation!” But we really did walk everywhere and sometimes even did a bit of running while going across the crosswalk.
When we arrived on Sunday, our room wasn’t ready yet so we stored our luggage and walked a bit of the strip. Our first stop was the new Miracle Mile Shops next door at the Planet Hollywood casino. We both were hankering for a 1/2 yard margarita. He got the original and I had the blue raspberry flavored one. Yeah, they tasted good but the novelty of them wore off rather quickly. It was a pain carrying them around everywhere. We enjoyed them for a little bit.

We then headed over to the Bellagio, just in time for a fountain show! The song playing was “Singing in the Rain.”

Here is David in front of our hotel.

And our room with the fantastic view of the strip!

After we finally got settled in, we took a nap and then went to the hotel café for dinner. I totally forgot to mention it in my last post! It was a simple dinner of salad and roasted tomato soup with a baguette.
The next day we started off by heading over to Caesar’s Palace. The last time I was in Vegas, there was an FAO Schwarz store that had a large piano that I really wanted to play! I was disappointed to see that it was replaced with an H&M.
We did have fun walking around the casino though.

These were pretty much the games that I played.

In front of one of the fountains!

There was also a show in the Forum about the “vanishing” of Atlantis.

That afternoon we walked to an outdoor market and saw a tent that was offering temporary henna tattoos. David thought it would be fun to get one! So we did, a sun/compass picture with the others initials in the middle. They came out really good!

After lunch, we headed in the other direction of the strip and ended up at the Venetian, which is one casino that I hadn’t been in the last time I was in Vegas and I really wanted to see it. We saw Mark’s square and the gondolas.

After dinner at Battista’s we went over to the V Variety Show at Planet Hollywood to check out the show! We booked general admission tickets but the theatre was small enough that we got middle section seats and a great view of the stage. The acts we saw were: 1) Wally Eastwood – world’s fastest juggler and MC 2) Aerial Expressions – flying acrobats 3) The Crazy Gauchos – told jokes, played drums and swung ropes with wooden balls on them – trust me, it was VERY entertaining 4) Iouri & Nikoli – Russian acrobats 5) Jason Byrne – magician 6) Jason Neistadt – hilarious impressionist – favorites were Michael Jackson, Elvis and Aaron Neville 7) and there were tap dancers that were featured on America’s Got Talent – their name is escaping me though.
No pictures or video taking was allowed in the theater. If you want to see any of the acts though, YouTube!
The next day, David was anxious to go to the Gun Shop which was about 2 miles off of the strip. They had a shooting range that he had heard about and wanted to try it out. I was, honestly, hesitant at first, but I didn’t have any other idea of what we could do for the afternoon so we went! It was definitely evident how different MA is from Las Vegas; they never asked for a license or had us sign a waiver, it was pretty much just a sign in sheet, and they even had kids packages. To each their own of course but the kid package was just odd to me.
I’m not sure what David shot (a Springfield maybe?) but I had a Beretta. Wow, I never realized how much of a kick back a hand gun has. I’ve shot a rifle when we went skeet shooting but the handgun was new to me. Out of the 20 shots, 19 hit the page! And about 10 or so actually hit the target shape.

For lunch, we stopped into New York, New York and then headed to the MGM Grand.

A few shots of our hotel!

On Wednesday, after the Hoover Dam, we were dropped off at Fremont Street which is in the real “City of Las Vegas”. We were there during the day so we didn’t see the light display but it was cool to just be able to see the street nonetheless.

And on our way back we walked by the shop that’s featured in the Pawn Stars show!

The last day we had a bit of time to kill between checking out of our room and our flight. We went all the way to the other end of the strip to the Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excelsior.

Even though we pretty much just got back from our trip, it took me a while to put every activity into order. It seemed like it all melded together! But it was such a fun filled week. And it’s definitely a vacation that we’ll remember while David is overseas.
Tomorrow will be the Hoover Dam post, then it’s back to the daily grind again. David left yesterday for 2 week army training so I’ll be busy packing since we’re out by February 28!
Hope you all had a great weekend! The forecast is calling for 46* tomorrow so I’m hoping for a run outside!

Looks like a great trip! I’ve never been to Vegas, but really want to someday! Cool that you shot a gun for the first time. I own a Glock 27. I got it when I was a cop and have just kept it, even though I haven’t shot it in a while. It’s pretty fun, isn’t it?
It’s such a fun city. It’s Disneyland for adults!
And it was fun shooting the beretta! Much more than I thought.
It sounds like an activity-packed trip! I remember we did SO much walking around during our visit!
Your post makes me want to go back!!!
I agree with you about the 1/2 mile margaritas. After a few sips I was sick of it — too sweet and holding onto that cup was a pain!
woo, half mile would be trouble!
I can’t wait for the next time I go. I really want to hike those mountains!
Your trip looks so much fun! I love your matching henna tattoos
