Birthday Weekend Part I

by Alaina on March 20, 2011 · 8 comments

I had the best birthday weekend! And it was at an easy, relaxed pace. I’m never into bar hopping or getting overly crazy when celebrating something. I like finding one place and just sitting, having a drink, and enjoying. But lets get back to where I left off! A lot happened since Thursday, so I will condense it to only the most important parts of the weekend: Me! Winking smile

Thursday was a beautiful day and I had my first iced coffee of the season: cinnamon with skim milk and sugar in the raw.

And I ran 3 miles in the morning in 27:18.

On Friday morning (my Birthday!!!), my parents took me out to breakfast and we went to the Friendly Toast in Kendall Square. It has such a funky, 50s style décor and the menu has some funky items too. I got the Coconut Cakes (cashews, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, covered in coconut sauce – It was pretty much an Almond Joy!), my dad got the King Pancakes (stuffed with peanut butter!) and my mom got the M&M pancakes. I haven’t had pancakes in so long so I enjoyed it immensely.

During the day, I got a ton of well wishes and it was so appreciated; from my family, friends and co-workers. I also got a peanut butter cupcake and grande skinny vanilla latte from Starbucks. Smile

After work, I went over to Post 390 for a few drinks and some food with co-workers. I was only there for a little over an hour since I had the race the next morning. For a beer, I had the Full Sail IPA (which was light and delish) and for a meal I had the arugula salad and margarita pizza.

Me and Grace!

The next morning was the Saint Patrick’s Day 5k! This is my third year running the race and my only goal was to finish faster than my previous two years of 32:53. And guess what? I did! By 4 minutes!!  My time was 28:20! Open-mouthed smile  It was crazy windy and cold in the morning but as soon as we got going, my legs warmed up and it was a fun run. I also got to see Becky! She ran about 4 minutes faster than me, but it was nice to chat with her before and after the race. Hopefully I’ll meet up with her again around marathon weekend!

Races are never a beauty contest for me. Winking smile Me and my friend Jess!

Me and my parents taking pictures in the garage before we headed out into the cold. My parents ended up doing the St. Patrick’s trilogy this year and my mom broke the 10:00 minute per mile pace!! And she’s been running less than a year! Yeah mom!!

Stay tuned for birthday weekend, part II!
