Working My Way Back: Back Bay Social Club

by Alaina on April 13, 2011 · 4 comments

I had to break up the “series” because I really wanted to talk about my dinner at Towne. I’ve heard from a few people that their experiences there were so-so. I’m hoping that because the restaurant is still fairly new, that they may be able to get through that slump. Because I thought the food was really delicious and I look forward to when they open their patio too.

-Did you read about my trip to Texas?
-I also discovered my new favorite coffee shop.

On Monday, I was invited to the Back Bay Social Club for dinner. This was my second concierge dinner and the fifth time at the restaurant overall. I love their cocktail list. My favorite drink in Boston is at this restaurant. So as soon as I entered, a gin somethin’ was ordered.

And two were down within half an hour. Winking smile But after that, no more for me. They go down so easy but they definitely hit after a while.

After we sat down, a plethora of appetizers were placed in front of us: pretzel sticks, the social burger cut 4-ways, sliders, rolls and chicken and waffles. I love the chicken and waffles. The waffle is light and fluffy and the chicken is moist and not too crispy. It’s topped with a maple bbq sauce which is perfect.

For my appetizer, I went with the bibb salad with tarragon dressing. I am definitely a bibb lettuce fan. It was tender and the dressing was just right.

For my entrée I decided on the lamb bolognese tagliatelle. When it was placed in front of me, I was so excited. It looked so good. I had the first bite and…there was no flavor. Whatsoever. It was very bland. When the two managers asked what I thought, I told them that there was nothing there. No flavor at all. Johna tried it and agreed, something was missing. I tried a bite of another’s dish and his had the spice and kick that the plate deserved. His was delicious. I was pretty disappointed that my dish was missing that. I’ll have to try it again when I go back.

For dessert, I tried the warm banana bread pudding (my favorite!) and the warm flourless chocolate cake. Both were excellent.

All concierge dinners are complimentary and these opinions are that of my own.

Back Bay Social Club is located at 867 Boylston Street in Boston, MA.

I also love bibb lettuce — I really like the texture.

The food looks delicious – I bet the warm banana pudding tasted super good!

My mouth is drooling at the mere mention of those desserts!
