JP Morgan Corporate Challenge

Before I recap my race from last night, I found out from fellow blogger Ali that the Run to Remember race was actually 13.5 miles from start to finish. If that’s true, than I PR’d the race by 4 MINUTES! Smile Ok, onto the race!

Last night I participated in the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge with work, the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel.

There were about 17 of us running and it was a perfect night for the race. Since the storm from the night before, the temperature had dropped and it was nice and cool at 7:15 at night.

We met up for the quick group photo and then we were off to the Boston Common to start the race. I didn’t have my camera with me so there are no pictures of the race. But here are some locker room pictures! Please ignore the awful lighting. I was obviously ready to ROCK this race. Smile with tongue out

There were about 8,000 runners from over 600 companies that were running this race. We stopped someone in the park to take another group photo. What we were attempting to do was show our logo on the back. But it just looks like we’re showing our bright butts off.

Before the race started, the announcers asked for 5-6 minute mile pacers to make their way to the start line. Well, there were a LOT of people making their way to the start line and I’m sure they weren’t all at that pace. I made my way up to the middle of the 8-9 minute mile pacers. Once they let everyone go, there were already people walking. I’m sorry, but that just irritates me. I don’t run to compete but I hate having to dodge people who are near the front and are already walking. Because of this, my first mile was slow (9:28). But after a while, things started to thin out and I wasn’t dodging anymore. I was, however, cramping like a mother. Running a race at night is tough because all that I’ve eaten throughout the day has settled. I didn’t stop though and by the second mile, my pace was about the same, if not faster.

I ended up finishing 3.5 miles in 32:19. I was the front runner for the Fairmont team!! Dan was 7 seconds behind me. We all did a great job as a team! As crowded as this race was, it’s a fun one to do. Especially for team building.

Afterwards, we headed to Brownstones and two of the managers bought us a round of beer and some appetizers. I had a Hoegaarden and for apps we got waffle fries and nachos. Yum!

We hung out for a bit just talking about work and what the weekend had in store.

I have to say that I slept so well last night. And this morning I made my giant snickerdoodles which I mailed out to the bake sale winner (and of course kept some for myself and to take to work). And I went on a quick 1.44 mile run in just under 12 minutes. It’s a gorgeous day out here in Boston!

It’s Friday! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Those waffles and nachos look so good!

Great job on your run! I agree with you that it is frustrating having to weave around people — I think some people just don’t pay attention to those starting lines!

There are few things better than a round of beer and a bunch of tasty appetizers following a team run. I’m definitely jealous!

That looks like a fun race to run. It’s cool that your coworkers like to run. Mine are VERY unhealthy.

I hope that is true about the Run To Remember! Like you said, you were even faster lady!
I would love to do a race like that… it is so motivating to run with others and have people that are counting on you to move your bum! Good job :D

I totally know what you mean about walkers at the beginning of the race!! Nothing against walkers, but come on now- if you KNOW you’re going to walk the whole thing, why would you start with the runners?! At my last half-marathon, we lined up according to our predicted finish times, and I lined up with the 2 hour group. As soon as I started, I was dodging walkers the whole time and it drove me NUTS. Sorry for the rant- it’s a huge pet peeve, haha!

You did awesome- way to go with being the top runner!
