It is so nice to have my dining partner back.
Two of my favorite things: my husband and beer ![]()
David has been home for a week and we’ve been out to a few places around Boston for meals. When you’re only eating subpar food and MRE’s, real food was all that David wanted. Whether it was pizza or burgers. But mostly burgers.
The day that he came home, the family went out to Grumpy Doyle’s in Reading. It’s simple pub food with a few inventive dishes. For my meal, I had the chicken and pear sandwich.
In theory, this sandwich is delicious. But they way they constructed it, it could have been better. It was topped with sliced pear, Swiss cheese and arugula. The bun was very soft and when I went to cut the sandwich, the bread fell apart. I ended up eating it with a knife and fork. The pears were also too thick and I ended up eating them on their own. If they were sliced a bit thinner and the bread was warmed panini style, it would have been perfect.
On Thursday afternoon, David and I spent some time in Boston before my shift. We went to the jewelry store to get my anniversary present fitted! Can’t wait for the finished product. For lunch, we stopped at Four Burgers on the common. I had heard that this restaurant used grass fed beef and offered only, you guessed it, four burgers. I ordered the burger with lettuce, caramelized onions and pickles.
The burger was really really good. It tasted homemade and I loved that they offered whole wheat buns. The price was a bit steep ($20 for two burgers and a soda) but the quality was well worth it.
Just before work, we stopped by Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream. I had the What a Cluster which is peanut butter ice cream, with marshmallows, peanut butter swirls and caramel clusters. David had chocolate with peanut butter.
What’s next on the food agenda? Yep, more burgers. And there was a place just down the street from the apartment that I wanted to try out: RF O’Sullivan’s. Every time I walked by, the smell just wafted and it smelled delicious. The restaurant itself is super tiny, but thankfully on a Sunday night, it wasn’t that busy.
Their burger menu was HUGE and in addition, they had special burgers too. I had the Hawaii 8-0.
These burgers, too, were HUGE. And they cooked it perfectly! The only downside was that the pineapple was hardly noticeable. I love the sweetness on a burger, but this one didn’t really have that taste. It was still delicious though. And the fries were large steak fries which are my favorite.
We did also go out to Limoncello on Friday night, but I’ve been there so many times and didn’t bother with the camera. It was another lovely dinner there, albeit VERY busy since it was a Friday night.
This weekend is our trip to DC and I can’t wait. Hopefully the weather will hold out! Oh, and look at the lovely flowers he bought for me too. ![]()

I love going out to eat with Jason — it just seems so special (although dining at home is special too, I guess meals together are always nice?)
The flowers are gorgeous — I love having a vase of flowers because they just seem to cheer me up instantly!
