David absolutely loves this place. And I can’t complain, their burgers are tasty. So once Lent was over, it was on our schedule to head here for lunch today.
When we sat down, I ordered an ice tea and David ordered a Magners. A few minutes later, I ordered a Guinness. When in Rome a pub, right? ![]()
Their burger menu at this place is huge and very tantalizing. A couple of times that I’ve been, I’ve had the Hawaii 8-0 and the Mexican. This time around, I ordered the Italian which had onions, peppers and melted cheese, ordered medium rare.
These burgers are gargantuan. Now, while they are juicy, lean, charbroiled (which I love) and smothered in delicious cheese, it’s actually a battle against you and your napkin when you eat one of them. Don’t expect to be dainty and don’t expect your chin to stay clean. I do like the taste of these burgers, but I am not a huge fan of the size. Because of the lack of surface space on the burger, the peppers and onions just fall out of it and I’m ended up with just a cheeseburger. And the “fries” that come on the side are not really fries, more like steak-potato-wedges which have to be eaten with a fork and knife. They are a meal in and of themselves, and I ended up taking mine home to have as an afternoon snack. As a side note, the chef was nice enough to box up fresh potato wedges for me to take home.
All in all, I would say that for burgers in the Somerville area, RF O’Sullivan’s is a solid choice, but probably wouldn’t be my top choice.

What a great way to break your meatless Lent! I’ve still never been to R.F. O’Sullivans but all of your reviews make me want to go!
I’ve also never been to R.F. O’Sullivans, but I live so close so I should really check it out! Sometimes I just love good pub grub
I used to go to R.F. O’Sullivans quite a bit when I lived in Somerville. I agree that their burgers are a little too juicy. Who thought that would be a complaint? Haha! I need to go back there soon.
I’ve never had a Guinness beer!
Gasp!
I wasn’t a huge fan until recently too. I even went to the Guinness factory in Ireland when I was 19 and I hated it then! I wish I could go back and do that over.
