Well, today was an unexpected day off. We’re not at the house because David has Army drill, and I’m not at work because I’m sick. Nothing serious, just a head cold and a wicked sore throat. But I should be back to work tomorrow.
The house is coming along, despite the rain that we’ve been having. Once it dries out, David and I can start laying the rest of the courses, fill them with mortar and then fill the holes with concrete. Hopefully by the end of the week we can start working with these:
Yesterday, David’s Army unit (26th Yankee Brigade) had their annual Yellow Ribbon Ball. It’s an alllll day event that includes vendors and support groups for those who came back from deployment, meals, and what David and I partook in, naps in the car. This event was from 7:30AM to 8:30PM. A lot of the groups and vendors that were there were more beneficial to us before David left, so the majority of the day was spent with his army buddies and their wives.
The food was pretty good for the day. Although, I’m glad I had a yogurt with granola before I left because they only had muffins and fruit available (I had a banana nut muffin and a banana). For lunch it was salad, chicken parmesan with pasta and chocolate pudding; dinner was much fancier with minestrone soup, chicken marsala with mashed potatoes and green beans, and a super rich, delicious chocolate cake for dessert. They also had a cash bar! But before the dinner, we did go to the Irish pub at the hotel and I had a Guinness.
The highlight of the evening though?
The 2004 and 2007 Boston Red Sox World Series trophies! Had to snap a photo. Oh yeah, but this I was more proud to stand next to:
David looked so snazzy in his uniform. So proud of my soldier. And at the end of the evening, they were giving out awards to the soldiers and their families. Because David has been on two deployments, I was called up with him to get the awards (a ring and a clock) and I got to meet the General. Apparently that’s a huge deal so I was definitely honored.
So last night was a wicked long day and today it felt so good to sleep in. Still feeling pretty cruddy right now (sneezing, coughing, overall yucky feeling) so I’m hoping that I’m all good for tomorrow’s 7AM shift.
On the exercising front…yeah…not so much. And I’m ok with that. It’s been a crazy week and I know that once things become less crazy, I’ll find the time again. Even if I don’t PR at the 5 mile race at the end of this month, at least I’ll have fun running with my parents and this lovely lady.
How was your weekend?
