This past Saturday, David and I were invited to have dinner at Met Back Bay on Newbury Street. It’s been open for over a year but never seemed to make it for any of their meals (they offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch).
I had heard great things about their menu and I have to say that it did look tantalizing. It offers some seafood items, a cheese and ham bar, steak, pasta and even eggs on the dinner menu. And their cocktail menu was amazing! I ordered the Tantric which had ginger beer, gin, lime and some other ingredients that I can’t remember. It was refreshing and SO delicious!
Our waitress, Jennifer, was amazing. She was there right when we needed her and she was so cheery and talkative, without be overbearing. And even though the restaurant was busy (it was 9PM) we were able to get a nice corner table and have a conversation.
To start, David and I split the Caesar salad and he had a bowl of French onion soup.
The salad was delicious but I wasn’t a big fan of the whole hearts of romaine. The dressing was just right though and the shaved parmesan was thick and sharp.
For an entrée, David and I both went with steak. I had the skirt steak, cooked medium rare, with a side of mashed potatoes. David had the house prime steak with a side of sweet potato fries.
My steak was cooked perfect and I loved the tender, fatty flavor of it. And the Chicago steak sauce was a perfect accompaniment. I also had a taste of David’s and his was so tender and had a slight chargrilled flavor. Both were devoured.
Since it was around 10:30 when we finished dinner, we decided to forgo dessert. But the whole experience was wonderful. The salads took a while to come out but after that, the service was quick and timely. We had a great table and a fantastic server.
For a more upscale, American dining experience with great cocktails, I would definitely recommend Met.
Even though this dinner was complimentary (Thank you Stephen!) these opinions are that of my own.
Met Back Bay is located at 279 Dartmouth Street, on the corner of Newbury.
