Happy Memorial Day!
How has your weekend been? Mine has been amazing.
It all started when Lauren came into town and stayed with us for her first night in Boston. David, Lauren and I had dinner at Dali, down the street from our apartment.
I didn’t end up taking pictures because our table was tucked into a dimly lit corner. We ended up ordering a couple dishes each and then sharing: garlic shrimp, goat cheese with marinara, fried Spanish cheese with sweet onion and honey, chicken croquettes, and chorizo with onions and sherry. And of course, a pitcher of sangria to share.
On Saturday, I ended up working a 12 to 8 shift. I had a quick breakfast with Lauren (delicious cereal bowl with yogurt, Kashi, raspberries, blackberries and granola) and then met my parents over at the Run to Remember expo to get our numbers. Myself, Lauren and my parents were running the 5 miler this year. Remember last year’s race? This one was so much better.
After work that night, I stayed with my parents at the hotel that is right at the starting line. I got a pretty good amount of sleep, except the last two hours I kept getting nervous knots. Not nervous about the race, but nervous that I would miss the wake up call! Didn’t happen though, thank goodness. We were up at 6:30 and ready to go to the race a little bit after 7 (the race started at 7:15).
Since I haven’t ran more than 3 miles in the last two months, I didn’t have any grand expectations for a PR at this race. I just wanted to get out there and have fun because it’s a really great course through downtown Boston.
And I have to say that I was very proud of my time, considering how much I haven’t been running. My pace was just under 10 minute miles, but I think the course was a bit long, which would have made my pace around 9:30. Sounds good to me!

And I was SO surprised to run into my friend Mike, who I met in Ireland back in 2004 (he was there for school too and grew up near Boston). Such a small world and so good to see him!
For lunch after the race, Lauren and I headed to the Hingham Shipyard.
To drink I had the blueberry beer and for lunch I had the chicken pesto sandwich with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. Our lunch took quite a bit to come out but we had such a good conversation going that we barely noticed. And the food was delicious! I loved my sandwich. The sweet potato fries that came with it were just OK.
And of course, we could not pass up going to Red Mango for dessert! It’s self serve!
I had a mix of pineapple and coconut topped with almond, pineapple, coconut and chocolate chips. I love tropical flavored frozen yogurt.
After our fun afternoon (Thank you for a great weekend Lauren! So glad to have you over), I headed to the house for the remainder of the day. I’ll update the page soon, but here’s where we are at with the progress.
Sweet.
How was your Memorial Day weekend? Today will be more time at the house. Have to use any good weather that we can get!

Ah, this entire trip was amazing and I am SO SO glad we were able to spend so much time together. You are truly an amazing person girl and I’m so glad we’ve become such good friends. Can’t wait to come back to Boston in August! Thank you again for EVERYTHING!
Sounds like a great weekend
I did the Run to Remember (5 miles) and thought it was great! Well organized and just a really fun event. I can’t compare to last year, but I guess it was a huge improvement. ALSO, we went to the Hingham Shipyard too this weekend. We hit up Wahlburger, although we almost did the Beer Works. So basically I am stalking you!
Haha, it was such a great race. I think I would do the 5 Miler again over the half marathon next year. Hingham seems to be the place to go! I had never been and it was such a nice day to be on the water. With all of the same places we attend, hopefully we’ll run into each other sometime!
Great job on the race. I LOVE Red Mango!I always get coconut.
The course for the RTR was totally long! I think my phone clocked it at 5.2 miles. Everyone I know that ran the half thought the course was long, too – some of their gadgets said anywhere from 13.3-13.8! I decided I was going to compare my time to a 5.2 mile run instead, I was much happier with my time that way.
What a great weekend you had Alaina, I would have loveddd to see you at the race, but yep, next year it is
