Things I like about this race:
1) Running with my co-workers
3) Running through downtown Boston
Things I don’t like about this race:
1) The sheer amount of people
2) The fact that there are no waves
3) It’s in the middle of July at night; it was hot and muggy
But overall, this has been a really fun event to be a part of since joining the Fairmont. This year I was the co-captain and next year, I’ve been passed on the torch of captain! Yeah!
We met at the entrance of the hotel to take some group pictures.
Then we headed on down to the Boston Common.
That’s my slogan!
There were a ton of people; about 12,000 runners from hundreds of different companies. And it was pretty much a free-for-all when you got to the front, near the start. Even though there were sections (7:00 pace, 8:00 pace, etc.) everyone got to the front, no matter if they were walkers or runners. My friend Michele and I got stuck with the walkers. It took 4 and a half minutes to cross the start and another 12 minutes just to make it to mile one! All told, we stuck together the whole 3.5 miles and crossed the finish line in just over 36 minutes. When we finally broke through the crowds, we were able to get some pace together, but the slow start hurt us. It’s definitely not a race for time though; it’s just a fun outing with the Fairmont family.
That’s pretty much how we felt; happy but fuzzy.
Afterwards, we headed to Brownstone’s where we had some beer and food. Great ending to a fun evening!
Can’t wait for next years race!
