This post is probably a record for me: ideas have been rolling in my mind for a week and a half now, and the WLW window has been open for about one week of that. This morning I finally had a chance to sit down and write it out.
For the past week I have finally been getting off my butt and working out. And not just lugging lumber and appliances around the house site. One of my favorite bloggers, Paige had set up a 4 week training and nutrition plan for me to kick start my better eating and exercising routine. And I’m happy to say that so far, so GREAT!
The workouts have not been easy and they have challenged me in more ways that I could have imagined. It’s not so much the number of reps or weight of the dumbbells, but more my mindset to be able to get through the tough workouts. Last week I had to do an interval run for 40 minutes on the treadmill. After 20 minutes, I wanted to quit. But I turned up my iPod and told myself that it was only 15 minutes left, 10 minutes left, 5 minutes! I was done, I was sweaty and I was proud.
And today, I am sore.
The workouts are geared towards my specific goals which are 1) be able to do legit pushups 2) strengthen my core which in turn will help to strengthen my lower back 3) have toned legs and 4) a flatter stomach. She also has helped to revamp my diet to get in more protein and less of the carbs that I always crave so much. And I’m glad to see that this hasn’t been a difficult transition. I can still very much enjoy the treats I love (pizza, ice cream) but I’m more conscientious of what needs to go into my body in order for the workouts to be more effective.
Since I am a paying client of Paige’s, I can’t post all of the workouts in detail.
Last week we focused on a 5 day workout week. The main exercises were squats, lunges (which are my least favorite but oh so effective), planks, Arnold presses, tricep kickbacks, etc.. I also had a day for the interval running and a day of a steady state run. This week is focusing on a 6 day workout week with an emphasis on full body workouts and hill intervals.
I also had some delicious meals this past week.
Whole wheat wrap, garden vegetable hummus, spinach, provolone and turkey slices. I had those a few times this past week.
A fun little creation: Arrowhead Mills pancake mix, mixed with Greek yogurt, canola oil and a splash of milk. The pancakes were thick and a bit tart. Next time I’ll add a bit of sweetener. I topped it with vanilla Chobani and a variety of berries. Kept me full for quite a while!
HOUSE
The house is coming along great! I don’t have the latest pictures but it’ll be done being painted today, we’ve ordered the kitchen cabinets as well as the tile for the bathroom.

This is going to be the tile for the bathroom floor and I’m wicked excited about it! It’ll be in 12×24 tiles and placed in a staggered pattern on the floor. Our shower is pure white tiles (same size, going up the wall vertically) and the vanity will be a dark brown. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together!
What styles do you like for rooms in your home? I think I bounce between two styles. For this house, we’re going with neutral tones and a more contemporary style. But ideally I would love our next home to have a rustic modern feel. David loves the look of natural wood, but I like to balance that out with more modern and clean items. ![]()

Glad you’re powering through the workouts, Alaina!

I love a good grey and yellow color scheme for a bathroom or bedroom. Makes me want to get on Pinterest, haha
