A House Update

by Alaina on September 26, 2012 · 2 comments

Well, the house is still being built. I will say that the fun part is upon us now: floors, cabinets and the overall pretty stuff about the house!

The last time I updated the house website, it was near the end of July and the house was freshly plumbed, wired and had all the doors and windows installed. Since then we’ve had:

Insulation
Plaster
Paint
Tile in bathroom and foyer
East and West walls sided
Electrical plates and light fixtures
Hardwood floors
Electricity!
Water is hooked up at the street with all new piping
HRV unit hooked up (still has to be routed to the bathroom and bedroom)
Kitchen cabinets

What needs to be done in order to get a certificate of occupancy:

Bathroom shower tiled
Toilet installed
HRV hooked up so as to vent from the bathroom and bedroom
Grade brought up to the house
Stairs to the front/back door built

Not too many steps until we move in! It’s definitely been a slow going process, especially since David started school for his masters. He’s predicting maybe 2 to 3 more weeks. I’ll be happy to be in by our anniversary (10/26). As for the solar panels, they have taken a backseat until we can get a mortgage to pay off all of our loans. Again, that should happen once we have our CO.

And now, onto the fun part: pictures!

And some pictures from my camera phone. We also had 25 trees taken out so as to optimize the solar access. It’s opened up the space so much! It actually looks like an acre of land now. Smile

I LOVE our floors! It’s hickory, 3/4 inch solid hardwood, 5” wide from Lumber Liquidators. And the cabinets are alder wood, tundra stain with a shiloh style door (very similar to shaker but with an extra detail). Our countertops are being measured on Friday.

THIS is my favorite part though: the apron front sink. Apparently, David says it doesn’t look like it can be undermount. I’m really hoping something can be done though, since that was the look I was going for.

So, that’s what David and I have been up to the last few months! We’re in the home stretch. Smile

Hey, just found your site. Looking forward to future posts. My brother just went through a total home remodel, so I understand the waiting. Looks great though!
