Last week David and I were invited down to Mohegan Sun by the wonderful Michelle to stay for the night and have dinner at one of their many delicious restaurants. The initial invite was to come down the same weekend that a few other bloggers had been, but I had a family engagement instead. So when I had a free night, along with David, we decided to take her up on the offer.
The hotel lobby was beautifully lit for the holidays. We were instructed to check in at the VIP area and then we went up to our room on the 27th floor.
Our room was extremely comfortable (I loved the barn doors in to the bathroom, it really saved a lot of floor space) and the view of the river was beautiful.
After getting settled, David and I headed down to the casino.
We don’t really gamble all that much but I do enjoy the slots every now and then. I lost.
And then David and I played some Roulette. We lost.
Then it was on to dinner! The casino boasts quite a few good restaurants, Todd English’s Tuscany, Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse, Jasper White’s Summer Shack, so it was tough to choose. But we ended up at Michael Jordan’s casual restaurant, 23.sportscafe.
To drink I had a Sam Winter. Drinking with Jordan!
The menu had typical bar food with a few items from the steakhouse as well. I was informed that we had to try the garlic bread. Garlic bread is one of my favorites so it was not hard to twist my arm.
The bread was delicious! It was soft, crispy, warm and had generous amounts of butter and garlic. It came with some blue cheese sauce as well.
For my entrée I actually kept it pretty light. I got the house salad with a bowl of chili.
For being such a simple meal it was completely satisfying. The salad was perfect, dare I say, and the chili was the just the right amount of kick. And instead of ground beef it was chunks of meat. I loved it!
And for David, he got the gargantuan 3lb burger called the Hall of Fame.
Needless to say it attracted a LOT of attention. I’ve only seen burgers that big on Man vs. Food. If you finish the burger, you get to keep the plate underneath which is signed by Michael Jordan. David didn’t finish it but he did deem it tasty and cooked perfectly.
After our filling dinner, David and I decided to hang out in the room for the evening. We ordered Ted on the movie channel (which is friggin’ hilarious!) and ordered a deluxe fruit plate for our dessert.
The next day we headed to the pool for about 20 minutes and then ventured around for some breakfast. David had his heart set on Krispy Kreme.
I was looking for a breakfast sandwich.
We were both happy campers. ![]()
On the way back from the casino, we stopped at BF Clyde’s Cider Mill in Old Mystic after hearing about their delicious cider and cider donuts. They were nearing the end of the season so David bought about 3 gallons of the hard cider. Their cider is delicious, especially since it’s 12% to 14% alcohol! ![]()
I will certainly be coming back here when it’s in full swing. I love this area of the state.
Overall David and I had a great time at the casino. With everything going on in school, with the house and work, it was such a nice getaway for the both of us. And a big thanks to Michelle for inviting us down!
The room and meals were complimentary but the opinions are that of my own.

Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I enjoy running, baking, dining out and spending time with my husband, whether it's decorating our new house or enjoying New England! Feel free to contact me at
