It’s been one week since starting my new job and I think it’s safe to say that I am loving this schedule. My hours have been earlier every day but I find myself setting into the routine very easily. I’m not tired in the morning or even early in the evening. It was just this morning that I actually fell asleep on the train. Thank goodness I don’t drive anymore. And just yesterday my schedule was moved about 15 minutes earlier so that I could make the earlier train home in the evening. Unfortunately the train was SO packed yesterday that I didn’t make it. But I did today. I hope it’s like that every day.
One of the practices that I’m trying to get in to is packing my lunch every night before bed. I hate the feeling of having too much to do in the morning. I would just like to grab and go. And so far, so good.
When doing my grocery shopping and planning out my lunches, convenience and healthy is key. Some of the items I’ve purchased:
-Deli meat (turkey and ham)
-Full Ham (when it’s on sale at $.99 a pound!). Great for cooking up and slicing up for sandwiches. And they freeze well too!
-Deli cheese (provolone)
-Sandwich Thins
-Mustard
-String cheese
-Reduced fat Wheat Thins
-Pretzel Crisps
-Pirates Booty (love this!)
-Carrots/Celery/Cucumbers
-Apples/Bananas/Clementines
-Kashi Bars
-Almonds
-Dried fruit
-Low Sodium Campbell’s Soup
I love my thermal tote from Thirty-One. ![]()
I also make a full pot of coffee every morning so that I can bring some fresh coffee with me on the train. I thought that having to travel so far from where we live in to Boston would be daunting, but the fact that I live a mile from the station and it’s free to park (and I’m early enough to actually get parking) it’s far less so.
I know it’s only been a week and I don’t want to jinx anything, but getting enough sleep and getting to the train on time has been working out great.
Now, let’s talk working out.
Yeah, I’m still working on that. I don’t want to wake up too early (getting to bed no later than 10pm and getting up at 5am would give me a solid 7 hours) but I know I can get a good quality workout in 20 to 25 minutes. I just need to get myself up and at ‘em. Do you have any quick and effective workouts?
So, that’s been it for me over the past week! I had an awesome weekend and the job is going well so far. There is SO much more responsibility than I’m used to but I’m very excited for the chance to prove myself in this position. I’m still learning, and there is a LOT to learn, so I know that it’ll take time before the processes and everything come naturally. How long does it take you to get integrated in to a new job?
Have a great rest of the week! ![]()

I love Thirty-One and have two similar lunch bags
That thing will be an conversation starter, I bet!
What’s your new job?
Hi Matt! I’m now a corporate concierge and “personal assistant” at a high end hospitality services company in Boston. Really excited about my new position and the fact that it’s M-F!
I’m a huge fan of Chris Freytag, Holly Perkins, and Jillian Michaels workouts — they’re all about 25 – 30 minutes!
Hmm… I am not one for the effective workouts these days, BUT I do know that it takes a couple of weeks to develop a habit. Whenever I want to motivate myself to get up early to work out, I invest in some new exercise stuff. Even a new pair of running socks gets me excited to get up and at em earlier!
