So, I know that it’s only February, but I think I can safely say that 2013 is shaping up to be one of the best years. And we’re just getting started.
Since moving in to the house in October, we’ve been able to get a lot of projects done: upper shelving, catwalk, stairs, closets, outside perimeter insulation, new washing machine:
In the coming month we’ll have new railings put in, carpet in the loft, an office constructed in the loft, and solar panels installed on the roof. I cannot wait for the day where we don’t have to pay our electric bills anymore.
For the past 6 years or so I had been driving a 1996 Toyota Camry that was given to me by my grandmother as a graduation present. It had certainly served me well over those past years, getting it up to 228,650 miles. Last Saturday one of the shocks blew on my back tire and David and I started looking a bit more intently at getting me a new car. It was in our minds since the fall, but we started getting a bit more serious this time around. After some research on compact vehicles I finally decided on the 2013 Toyota Corolla.
It’s only been a week but I LOVE it! I have never owned a brand new car before, and I feel so, I don’t know, adult-y and stuff. It’s so shiny and clean and I intend to keep it that way.
And this is my favorite feature:
A touch screen for the radio and iPod! Now I wish my driving commute wasn’t 2 miles a day.
So what has accelerated these purchases and home projects? David got a job!! He loves what he’s doing and he’s in high demand too. It’s only been a few days since he started but they are keeping him busy, busy. And I’m a few weeks in to my job and things are going great. I’m starting to get the hang of doing corporate/residential concierge, as opposed to the hotel culture that I’m used to. And I’m really liking the people that I work with. Just yesterday, since our servers were still down, my manager and I made a trip to one of the resident buildings that they operate and on the way back we stopped at LA Burdick for some hot chocolate.
I ordered the small milk chocolate and woo-wee, it was sweet! A bit sickeningly sweet too; my stomach was none too happy later that night. I think next time I’ll opt for the dark chocolate. It was certainly delicious, don’t get me wrong! Just super super rich.
This Past Week
It all started last Saturday for my mother in law’s birthday. We gathered at their place for family game time and Chinese food. Lots and lots of food. And cake. Happy Birthday Nancy!
That night I started to not feel too well and sure enough, it turned into a nasty head cold. Sunday was a semi rest day, since that was the day I bought the car. Monday was an OK day at work; I left an hour early and ended up calling out on Tuesday. Wednesday was back to the grindstone. Thursday and Friday we had server and e-mail problems so work was put on semi-hold until we could get that up and running (didn’t happen until today). To keep myself busy I familiarized myself with the the supply closets. So now I know where folders, push pins and Lysol wipes are!
Hmm, what else can I reflect upon on this already-too-long post? Oh yeah! A delicious new deli that opened up near the office. It is a chain but I am loving Pret a Manger. On my first week I bought a toasted ham sandwich with a side of popcorn.
On Friday, I ordered the black bean chili and roast beef baguette with parmesan and arugula. So good and so filling. I will definitely be taking a few lunch breaks here.
Well, ah, I think that is it for now! Things have certainly been crazy busy but I am absolutely loving it.
I know it’s only February but how has your year been going so far?
