Sunday Stuff

by Alaina on February 24, 2013 · 4 comments

Well, it’s Sunday.

And apparently here in central Massachusetts, that means it’s time for snow! Third weekend in a row, and it’s snowing again. Certainly reminds me of Snowmaggedon of 2010/2011. It does look pretty though. Smile

-Last weekend we celebrated my in-law’s 35th wedding anniversary. They are just the cutest and most loving couple ever (besides my own of course Winking smile). I’m so happy to be their daughter in law.

My sister in law Sara made the most amazing cake with vanilla cake, buttercream frosting, lemon curd and raspberry preserve.

-Last week I received an e-mail from the PR coordinator of Intelligent Nutrients to see if I would be interested in sampling their line of organic hair products. I’m a sucker for shampoo and conditioners, I tell ya. I’m always on the lookout for products that will help with my fine, frizzy hair.

Both products are non-toxic, lightweight and color safe (my hair still has some dye in it from a few months ago). It has a lovely minty smell that was light and not overwhelming. It’s formulated without sulfates, parabens, silicones, ethoxylates, PEG, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. [Source] And it’s safe for all hair types.

I received the product on Friday and used it yesterday and this morning. I love how thick it is, which means you don’t have to use a whole lot (because at $7-$7.50 a bottle it better go a long way!). It left my hair feeling soft and had a subtle scent. I was impressed. Would I spend that much on shampoo and conditioner? I have in the past, so it all depends on how long this can last me.

I received this product complimentary however the opinions of these products are 100% my own. I was not compensated for my review.

-Another exciting development in our house!

Last week we had the stainless steel rails put in on the lofts. We have a TON of stuff to move down from there so that it can be carpeted. The first floor will be filled to the brim. We’re hoping to have it all complete before my birthday party on St. Patrick’s Day.

-This past Friday I met up with my friend Steph from college at the Five Horses Tavern for dinner and drinks. We’re hoping to get better at meeting up and so far we’re 2 for 2(months) this year. Smile

For a cocktail, I had the Formulaforsuccess (how it’s written on the menu) which was Titos vodka, rosewater, agave nectar, ginger beer, and fresh lemongrass. It was incredibly light and refreshing; I enjoyed two. The first one didn’t have enough ginger beer (which they added upon my request) and the second one was perfect.

For my entrée I had the Pato Loco which was a confit duck burrito with pork belly, wild rice, red onion, garlic, swiss chard, scallions, red dragon sauce with a side of tater tots. I’m classy like that. Smile with tongue out

I know the picture is extremely unappealing but I can tell you that this was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever had. The bites of pork belly and wild rice made me think of pork fried rice and the duck was perfectly juicy. The dragon sauce gave it a nice kick. And the tots? Perfection.

Five Horses Tavern is located at 400 Highland Avenue in Somerville, MA.

-The Oscar’s are tonight!! I actually haven’t seen any of the movies nominated. Well, except for Skyfall, which I think is nominated for Best Song. The real reason I’m excited is because Seth MacFarlane is hosting! I’m thinking of throwing my 10PM bed time out the window just to watch the whole thing. We shall see.

And with all of that, I hope you all had a great week and have a great week ahead!
