This past weekend was GORGEOUS in Massachusetts. Saturday morning started a bit chilly and rainy but it cleared out to be sunny with low, low humidity. The morning was spent having my favorite weekend breakfast: whole wheat toast with Laughing Cow French onion spread, veggie bacon and scrambled eggs with a side of berries.
David had a few things to do at the office so I did a quick workout at home and then cleaned the house. When David was done at work, we headed out to Indian Ranch in Webster for the Brewfest! The weather this year was SO much better. So, of course, it was more crowded. But we were able to sample quite a few brews and we were able to find some elbow room to enjoy them. My favorites were the Fall Woodchuck Cider and the Bay State Beer Company’s Amber ale.
BT’s Smokehouse was back this year too and David got a pulled pork sandwich and I had the beef jerky. The jerky was spicy and delicious. And I had a few bites of the sandwich. I love BT’s BBQ; it’s wet and smoky. Delicious!
I enjoyed most of the beers that I tried but I wasn’t a fan of Shipyard’s Monkey Fist IPA (too hoppy) or the Blue Hills Brewery Watermelon Ale (too warm).
The entertainment was provided by Over Drive, a band playing country music. Nothing like singing along to Zach Brown Band and Charlie Daniels Band while enjoying beer and BBQ on the lake. Summer perfection if you ask me.
David and I had SUCH a great time and I would love to make this an annual event for us. Marie (who won the tickets) said she had a great time too! Thank you so much Adam for inviting me!
I was given two tickets, complimentary, for this event, but all opinions are that of my own.
And now, on to brunch! Each month my friend Steph and I try to plan to get together and this month’s was to have brunch at Tupelo in Inman Square, Cambridge. I had heard great things about their Southern menu and after looking at their menu ahead of time, I was excited.
To start, I had the Heartbreak Hotel drink (blood orange puree, elderflower cordial, cava). Steph had the mint drink that was a special of the day. My drink was refreshing and just a bit sweet and tart. I love blood orange. For an app, we split the grilled watermelon with feta, red onion and tomato. Oh.my.gosh, this dish was amazing. I don’t know what was in that feta but it was addicting. And the grilled watermelon was quintessentially summer and refreshing.
For my entrée I had the smoked sausage and potato hash with scrambled eggs, French bread and Tabasco aioli. I pretty much devoured this dish. The sausage was just smoky enough and had a bit of heat to them. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the egg was more of a patty that scrambled, but still delicious. The bread was soft and buttery. Steph had the Tupelo (scrambled egg, chorizo sausage, roasted red peppers, cheddar cheese and mixed greens on a Portuguese sweet roll, with home fries). She said the combination of flavors were perfect. We both loved our dishes.
The service was quick, however our server had almost no personality. He was pretty short with us, just came up to the table, looked at us and said “what can I do for ya?” Um, ok. The guy pouring the coffee was great though! Overall, a wonderful brunch that I would definitely go to again. I think next time I’ll get the chicken and waffles.
Tupelo is located at 1193 Cambridge Street, Inman Square, Cambridge, MA.
How was your weekend? And have a great week everyone!
