I think last night was the first time that I ran a race in the evening. And given the fact that it was late July, it was unseasonably cool and awesomely overcast.
I arrived to Newburyport around 5:15, given that there was more traffic than expected on 495. I was also not aware at how big this race was! I ended up parking on a side street right by the high school. The lawn and streets were filled with people, both runners and spectators. I loved the energy around me. I knew I was in for a great race!
It started promptly at 6 and the race wound through downtown Newburyport and along the shore. I absolutely LOVED this course and I loved the crowd support. The race was hilly but I felt strong the entire way, and I didn’t feel defeated when we reached the short, steep hill before the finish line.
Although I ended up parking near the finish line, I was also right in the midst of the race. I had to wait about 20 minutes or so while the 10 miler runners were running by the end of the street. When that cleared up, it was smooth sailing home.
And after the race, I enjoyed a Bud Light and delicious burger that David made!

Have you ever completed in a late day race? I definitely think the weather really played in my favor this year. Apparently my aunt and uncle have ran it before and it was always hot and humid.
